Religiosity and Spirituality in Confronting the Pandemic COVID-19: Integrative Review
Abstract
Historically, situations of calamities, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, intensify the search for spiritual and religious support. This study aims to analyze national and international scientific production about religiosity and spirituality associated with the current social and sanitary conjuncture during the COVID-19 pandemic. From the perspective of integrative review research, searches were carried out for articles published in 2020 in Portuguese, English and Spanish, available in the SciELO, PsycNET and LILACS database. We selected 15 articles that discussed the implications of religiosity and spirituality in the way how different people face and experience the COVID-19 pandemic. The results point to religiosity and spirituality as important dimensions that guide the subjects in their actions in the face of the pandemic and social distancing and help them in coping with adverse situations, such as illness and mourning. It is concluded that it is necessary that health teams should be together with religious groups and leaders, contributing to the construction of comprehensive health care practices, in interlocution with traditional knowledge.
