Father Attachment, Parental Involvement and Openness to the World
Abstract
This study at investigating the relationship between father’s emotional attachment, parental involvement and openness to the world, in the perspective of the father of children. The participants were 171 parents of children between 4 and 6 years of age. The research instruments of the study were: a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Paternal Involvement Questionnaire (QEP), the World-Wide Openness Questionnaire (QOM) and the Adult Attachment Scale (AAS). The data analysis showed that parents with secure attachment are more predominantly involved in risk-stimulation activities and in basic care with the child, when compared with parents who have an insecure attachment, that difference was statistically significant. That is, it can be thought that parents who developed a secure attachment feel more confident to encourage their children to explore the environment and develop challenging activities, giving them security and promoting autonomy, while also being considered ready to take care of the child, feeding her, bathing her, taking her to school, among other activities.
