Abstract

Companies in the organic food chain that aim to improve food traceability with blockchain technology face important decisions related to the characteristics of the organic value chain, which encompasses optimizing the collaboration of chain partners and selecting which data to capture. in that tool. This study evaluates the application of blockchain technology to enhance consumer confidence in food chains “from farm to fork” based on the quality and certification of organic products, specifically for sparkling wines. The methodology stems from a case study in a rural property, located in Garibaldi-RS, Brazil. For data analysis, the content analysis methodology was used. Based on the study developed, it was possible to identify that there are attributes of blockchain technology that can meet the expectations of the producer of organic sparkling wines, participating in the research. Blockchain attributes real-time traceability to the manufacturing process, making it transparent and secure, in addition to providing economic and competitive advantages to the manufacturing company.
