Abstract

The aim of the study is to evaluate the joint effect of endogenous factors and the performance in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on companies’ adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at the international level. Explanatory, documentary, and quantitative research was carried out, with descriptive analysis and eight binary logistic regression models. 2,786 publicly traded companies listed in the G-20 countries were analyzed, which published their sustainability reports in 2018, of which 300 adhered to the SDGs. The results indicate that CSR performance positively influences companies’ adherence to the SDGs. Furthermore, regarding the endogenous factors analyzed, the size of the company and the growth in sales showed an influence on the adherence to the SDGs, in a positive and negative way, respectively. In addition, CSR positively moderates the relationship between big four audit and adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals. The study provides insights into the implications of CSR performance on companies’ adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals internationally.
