Needs Verification of constructive adaptation for wheelchairs access in a municipal school in Jitaúna-Brazil
Abstract
The accessibility search in Brazil has gained greater attention in recent years, given the buildings deficiency in enabling access to individuals with limited mobility. This fact has led designers to seek understanding about buildings purpose so that they can be planned or adjusted user’s needs, promoting actions that minimize the obstacles that hinder the people traffic with reduced mobility. Many old buildings were built without these demands being observed, given the absence of the constructive items that facilitate accessibility. This fact is observed in public buildings for school purposes, which, given their essence, need to be inclusive and provide the people independence with motor disabilities, especially wheelchair users. Thus, the objective is to evaluate a school building in Jitaúna-BA city and to evaluate the building conformity against the ergonomics and accessibility technical standard evolution. The research was carried out through spaces occupation observations, walkthrough, physical and photographic surveys, applying ABNT NBR 9050/2015. Norms were synthesized, problematized and discussed, in order to illustrate a recurrent situation in public schools.
