Relations between land mixed use and public space in Linha Verde of Curitiba

Andre Augusto Prevedello

Abstract

The research analyzes the urban configuration of Curitiba Linha Verde. Was developed a data collection of an urban slice in the South Linha Verde (urban operation area) and Sete de Setembro Avenue (region of the city already consolidated). Based on the evolution of the city and a broad analysis of a bibliographical review on public space and mixed use of, land, the research aims to demonstrate that the amount of public space destined was higher than the averages of the city. However, the model of relationship between mixed land use and public areas is the same one already used in Structural Sete de Setembro Avenue. For both the slice urban area of the South Linha Verde and the slice of Sete de Setembro Structural Avenue a data survey was developed, divided into three groups. The first group formed by general urban planning parameters such as coefficient of utilization, land areas, occupation area and built area. The second group, formed by the physical parameters of the public space as areas of sidewalks, streets, permeable and green areas. A third group, using the density parameter and the relations between density and public areas. After this survey, the data obtained were crossed with the objective of finding relationships between current and future density, Public Space and Mixed Land Use. Assuming that the use of various types of land use adjacent to public spaces has complementary relations of quality improvement to the city it is argued that the implementation of these concepts was failed in other already consolidated areas of the city.
