Study of the influence of initial geometric imperfections on the behavior of semi-rigid steel frames

Victor Painçal Rodrigues, Bruno Eizo Higaki

Abstract

In this work, the influence of the initial geometric imperfections on the stability of semi-rigid plane steel frames was analyzed. The finite element method was used in the analysis and the initial geometric imperfections was considered by modeling nodes in deformed shape position. It was verified that the introduction of initial geometric imperfections increased the bending moments values in the frames studied, but not enough to become significant in the analysis. It was observed that the consideration of the semi-rigidity of the beam-pillar connections are more relevant in the results.
