Verification of progressive collapse on armed concrete beams
Abstract
This work aims to use the Alternative Load Path Method (ALPM) and the criteria established by the General Services Administration (GSA) in order to verify, in a case study, whether the beams of a reinforced concrete structure, dimensioned according to NBR 6118 (ABNT, 2014), resist progressive collapse. After the analysis, the beams, which could possibly be damaged, were resized to withstand collapse. The results indicated that the beams have a high probability of progressive collapse, only with respect to the bending moments. To counteract the collapse, there was a significant increase in the steel area of the beams.
