Urbanization of favelas in Curitiba: an intervention case study in Bolsão Formosa

Abstract


This article reports a case study on the urbanization interventions carried out between 2007 and 2014 at the group of favelas Bolsão Formosa, at the Novo Mundo neighborhood, in Curitiba City. It is intended to understand to what extent these interventions, which took place within the scope of the Development Aceleration Program - Urbanization of Precarious Settlements (PAC-UAP) collaborated with the policy of deficit and precariousness housing combat in Curitiba and how was the adopted approach by the Popular Housing Company of Curitiba (COHAB-CT) about planning, fundraising and project management and construction. To this end, data collection of the actions planned and actions performed and the mapping of projects using as main sources CEF (2018) and IPPUC (2019). Subsequently, with the aid of geoprocessing software, the multi-criteria verification matrix was built throughf the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was built. This method was used to compare the proposed interventions in relation to the implemented ones, enabling a objective analysis of the performed actions and its impacts in Bolsão Formosa and immediate surroundings.
