Abstract

This article intends to approach the German culture and the material heritage of enxaimel architecture, and its focus is on the locality of Cerro Largo/RS. The municipality is recognized as the “Regional Cradle of Culture”, for keeping alive various manifestations of Germanic tradition, knowledge and doing, of which the built heritage stands out. When walking through the streets of the city, especially in the central area of the city, there are several buildings that have survived with the way of living and the constructive technique used by German immigrants, between the 19th and 20th centuries. To do so, it starts with a bibliographic analysis on the history of the city and on aspects that make up this architectural technique, followed by a photographic survey, in order to understand how these residences were consolidated over the years and present themselves in the current scenario. From this perspective, the importance of the study lies in the promotion of data collected and results obtained that allow promoting the recognition and appreciation of the local heritage.
