Gabriela Kratsch Sgarbossa

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the presence of the work of art in the modernist architectural composition, through a case study in a medium-sized house, located in a city in the interior of Paraná. For that, exploratory and analytical methods were used, in bibliographic and documentary sources, as well as conducting field research to analyze the work in loco. The chosen work was the Therézio Xavier House, designed by Miguel Juliano, which has a glass mural by the Italian-Brazilian artist Bramante Buffoni. The main results achieved indicated that the synthesis of the works, wished by modernist architects, managed to influence a large part of the architecture that developed after the construction of the headquarters building of the then Ministry of Education and Health, even reaching residential buildings in the interior of the country, although isn’t possible to measure the performance as an educational function. About the work studied, it was noticed that it has great influence on the local landscape, as well as characteristics very similar to other works in equivalent supports developed by Buffoni in the capital of São Paulo.
