Anna Carolina Lucca Sandri

Abstract

The research objective was to reflect about project “Marvelous Port”, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in a perspective of dependent urbanization and coloniality, reflecting about the influence of Latin American capitalism, in particular through of overexploitation of the labor force and coloniality of knowledge and power. The methodology used was analysis of documental sources, originating from technical studies about “Marvelous Port”, documents from civil society organizations and bibliographic review. The project “Marvelous Port” results in urban exploitation for prioritization of tax advantages to the detriment of social policies and the removal of low-income residents. The coloniality is presented for the allocation of resources to “Museum of Tomorrow”, in loss to the investments in valorization of historical patrimony of Valongo Pier and Pretos Novos Cemetery.
