Abstract

The construction industry is considered the main consumer of natural resources due to the large number of constructions necessary for the country’s growth, but the high cost of the materials becomes a limiting factor for accomplishing these constructions. Therefore, the addition of different materials in the production of components and the use of waste, which generally have a considerable cost of disposal and / or require specific treatment, becomes a technical and economic attractiveness to researchers and especially to the market consumer. This study aims to evaluate the behavior of concrete with marble waste addition in relation to the mechanical properties and durability. To do so, we performed an experimental study using the contents of 10 % and 20 % addition of this residue. With respect to compressive strength, the incorporation of the waste did not present significant influence when compared with plain concrete. However, considering the water absorption by capillarity as an indication of durability it was found that the addition of a 10% of wastes is a good option for improving this property.
